The main functions of Social Sciences Grant Support (SSGS) are “to aid faculty in proposal preparation and submission” and “to ease the burden of administrative tasks that face the principal investigator of a successfully funded project.” SSGS is also a major source of information for faculty and researchers on policies and procedures for developing proposals for extramural federal, state, and private funding agencies. This function involves budget development and agency form preparation. SSGS also prepares monthly financial statements and processes no-cost time extensions, transfers of funds, cost-sharing reports, the hiring of project personnel, requests for travel advances and purchasing of project equipment and supplies.

SSGS oversees the administrative and accounting needs of over 60 funded projects and 10 Centers as well as support over 60 principal investigators, graduate students, and researchers from the departments of Anthropology, Economics, Geography, History, Linguistics, Sociology, Political Science, and Near Eastern Language and Culture.
